Harold Godwinson, or Harold II, was the last Anglo-Saxon king of England. He was the son of the powerful Godwin, Earl of Wessex. Harold was appointed by the previous king, Edward the Confessor, to take the throne after his death because Edward had no sons. Harold reigned as king of England from January 6, 1066 until his death at the hand of the Norman invaders on October 14, 1066 the Battle of Hastings.
